TOTS Predictions

The 2016-2017 has possibly featured the greatest showcase of individual talent in recent memory. From emerging talents like Marcos Alonso to rejuvenated stars like Eden Hazard to consistently elite players like Philippe Coutinho, the Premier League has been host to an abundance of in-form players. This will result in some tough decisions when a Team of the Season is picked at the end of the season. We, the Loose Goose FC team, decided to have our crack at the process (using Euro Sport’s Best 11 feature), and here are our early TOTS picks.

Tom Heaton has simply been the best keeper in the Premier League, being Burnley’s star player. Kyle Walker and Marcos Alonso have been exceptional as attacking wing backs, and their defense isn’t too bad either. Koscielny has been a rock at the back for Arsenal, and Azplicueta has made drastic improvements this season. N’Golo Kante has continued his tremendous form from last season, providing great cover for Chelsea’s defense. Adam Lallana has become the heart of Liverpool’s pressing game, racking up 7 goals and 7 assists from center-mid. Meanwhile, Dele has proven time and time again that he can step it up when his team needs him most. At the front, Hazard and Mane have provided the creative sparks for their teams, and contributed to long winning streaks. Not much has to be said about Alexis Sanchez, who is consistently putting Arsenal on his back and carrying them to wins.

Starting in goal, Ben Foster has been the hero for West Brom, putting in one strong performance after another. Marcos Alonso and Shkodran Mustafi have each been incredible for their sides, as they have only been involved in 2 and 0 losses, respectively, for their sides. Danny Rose and Kyle Walker form the best fullback duo in England, and Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are two of the most creative midfielders in the league. Phillipe Coutinho and Eden Hazard each terrorize opposing defenses with their fantastic ball control, and Diego Costa has been one of the biggest factors in Chelsea’s title campaign so far. And, of course, the best player in the EPL at the moment, Alexis Sanchez, rounds out the side, providing that killer passion and untouchable skill.

Tom Heaton is the undisputed best keeper in the EPL, in my opinion. Alderweireld and Azplicueta have been solid and steady at the back, while also providing the occasional attacking flair. Walker and Alonso, on the other hand, have become irreplaceable parts of their clubs’ attacks, creating chance after chance. In the midfield, West Ham have looked to Michael Antonio to carry them in wake of Payet’s fallout with the club. The center of the pitch consists of the Eriksen-Alli duo, which has led Spurs’ high powered attack. On the left is Eden Hazard, who has carried his impressive form from the Euros into his club season. Up top, Alexis Sanchez has been the heart and soul of Arsenal, and Harry Kane just has a knack for getting his name on the score-sheet.

In goal, there has been no keeper more capable of the spectacular save than Ben Foster. He would receive protection from two of the most successful centerbacks in the league, Mustafi and Azplicueta. Kyle Walker and Danny Rose are two of the best fullbacks in the world when going forward. They would be joined on the wings by Eden Hazard and Sadio Mane, two outside midfielders that have really caught fire this season. In the middle are two of the most direct attackers in the game, Coutinho and Dele. Completing the side is the big target-man Zlatan, accompanied by the quick and deadly Alexis Sanchez up top.

Honorable Mentions: Sergio Aguero, Paul Pogba, Gary Cahill, Mesut Ozil, Moussa Dembele, Romelu Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois
