Some may say thrilling, some may say tense, when asked to describe the EFL Cup final. However, I’d just describe it as predictable. After Southampton were flagged for offside for a goal which really wasn’t offsides and looked most likely to score the first goal, not long after Ibrahimovic scored a free kick then Lingard nabbed a second. Gabbiadini scored right before the half to give the Saints hope. Continue reading EFL Cup Review
The opening knockout round of the Europa League provided no shortage of surprises, from Tottenham’s shocking exit to Gladbach’s improbable comeback from down 3-0. Such upsets are a unique part of the Europa League. Unlike the Champions League, the Europa League sees giants like Manchester United accompanied by smaller sides like Apoel FC and FK Krasnodar. At this point, everyone seems to really start shifting away from squad rotations to their full first team. So, with only 16 teams remaining, we saw this as a fitting time to make our picks for who we think will take home the silverware. Continue reading Europa League Predictions
What a wild two years it’s been for Claudio Ranieri – after joining Leicester City, he took a side pinned to be relegated to win the Premier League title, won FIFA Manager of the Year, has his side still alive in the Champion’s League knockout stage, and has now be sacked. Granted, he has been on the hot seat as his side is currently barely sitting above the relegation zone, but considering he was just given a vote of confidence from the board, he definitely deserved a chance to finish out this season, at the very least. Last week EA announced they would be adding to the ratings refresh to this year’s FIFA 17. This means they will be upgrading the FIFA Ultimate Team cards of players, and also downgrading them for the first time. So much of the international football scene, and all of the sport for that matter, is dominated by superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. However, these players are aging, and at some point, it will be time for their national teams to think about the next chapter. For example, how many players on these national teams will be seen at the 2022 World Cup? I doubt there will be many that are currently over the age of 3o. In this article, I am going to be taking a look at some of the national teams I think have bright futures, who their key players will be, and how far they can go. For the purposes of this, none of the key players I identify can be over 25, and only one player per country can be over 23. Continue reading National Teams with the Brightest Futures
After West Ham United made a permanent move away from the Boleyn Ground to the London Stadium, Hammers fans would have hoped for and expected higher quality football and better performances from their team. However, this has not turned out to be the case. Slaven Bilic and his team are currently sitting in a mediocre 10th place after 25 games, sixteen points off the top six. What has happened at West Ham? How did the east London club go from being a strong candidate for a top 6 finish last season to mid-table mediocrity so quickly? Let’s take a look at how their stadium move contributed to their disappointing performances so far this season. The 2016-2017 Premier League season has been a reliable source of entertainment for fans. Aside from the occasional dull game, there has been no shortage of attacking firepower and individual flair. It was very difficult for me to narrow the list of 250 matches played this season down to just 5, and there were many that were very close but just didn’t make the cut. Here now are my top 5 most entertaining matches this season.
Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robin Van Persie, and so many more – what do all of these players have in common? Each of them made a name for themselves early on in their career, scoring at least 15 league goals before turning 21. Last season, the football world saw the beginning of the emergence of the new era of “wonderkids”, or incredibly talented teenagers. This year, an abundance of new players have been added to that list. With so many incredible talents under the age of 21, it can be so hard to really figure out which players have the highest ceilings. In this article, we are going to take a look at our Wonderkid XI, and give you one player each that we feel can be a future Ballon d’Or winner. Continue reading The Best U-21 Players in the World
