Reacting to the PFA Team of the Season

The long awaited PFA Team of the Season was finally released earlier today, and let’s just say there’s quite a bit of controversy surrounding it. Spurs and Chelsea dominated the selection, with 8 of the 11 players picked. 5 of the players picked were also in the 2015/16 team (David de Gea, Danny Rose, Dele Alli, Harry Kane, N’golo Kante). In fact, Kane and de Gea have now been selected 3 years in a row. Here is the full selection:

Search for the Statistical MVP – Round 2 (Part 1)

Welcome back to round 2 of our weekly series, the Search for the Statistical MVP (Click here for round 1). In this series, we are looking solely at players’ statistics this season to see who has provided the most on paper value for their team. Keep in mind, this does not mean they are the best player, or the most talented; it is just a test to see who comes out on top. For the purposes of not wanting to make you read through 16 matchups in one read, we will be splitting this round up into 2 parts: 8 today, and 8 matchups next time.

In this round, it will be relatively easy to compare players, because almost all of the matchups are between players playing the same position. It may get a little murky in the future, but for now, here are your Round of 32 matchups: Continue reading Search for the Statistical MVP – Round 2 (Part 1)

FA Cup Predictions

The “Final Four” of the FA Cup is set, and it is looking to be one of the best conclusions in recent memory. All the upsets and giant killers have been eliminated, and all four teams that remain are in the top 5 of the Premier League – Chelsea, Spurs, Manchester City, and Arsenal. This is far from the norm of the FA Cup; take last year for example – Crystal Palace, Watford, Manchester United, and Everton made up the semi-finalists, and none of those clubs qualified for the Champions League. It’s time to take a look at our FA Cup Predictions: Continue reading FA Cup Predictions

National Teams with the Brightest Futures

So much of the international football scene, and all of the sport for that matter, is dominated by superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. However, these players are aging, and at some point, it will be time for their national teams to think about the next chapter. For example, how many players on these national teams will be seen at the 2022 World Cup? I doubt there will be many that are currently over the age of 3o. In this article, I am going to be taking a look at some of the national teams I think have bright futures, who their key players will be, and how far they can go. For the purposes of this, none of the key players I identify can be over 25, and only one player per country can be over 23. Continue reading National Teams with the Brightest Futures

Should the EPL Adopt an All-Star Weekend?

Imagine the creative likes of Dele Alli, Phillipe Coutinho, Eden Hazard and more all playing on the same team. Now imagine finally getting an answer to long-debated questions such as “Who is the best passer in the league” and “Who’s got the most powerful shot”. That’s what a potential EPL All-Star Weekend would bring to the table – in addition to the extra TV cash it would bring to the league. This weekend would presumably be following the conclusion of the season (a gameweek 39, if you will). Continue reading Should the EPL Adopt an All-Star Weekend?

This will result in some tough decisions when a Team of the Season is picked at the end of the season. We, the Loose Goose FC team, decided to have our crack at the process (using Euro Sport’s Best 11 feature), and here are our early TOTS picks. Continue reading TOTS Predictions
